My winning poems

بسم الله الرحمن الرحيم

 السلام عليكم

I had to delete the post about my quiz cause there wasn't a single comment except Zainab's, THANK YOU for finding my blog after a long time! ..... As well as that I'm sick, been sick for a month running, and over all that eye infection. It's supposed to be pink eye infection but it's red...

I'm not going to post a picture but you can look it up - it's called pink eye infection and... well, I've got bacterial something-or-the-other AND virus. I have no idea why I've got TWO types of infection, but I have, so there's nothing I can do except make du'aa and take eye drops as prescribed. My head hurts - it's the first headache I've ever got Subhanallaah!

Enough about my sickness. I wanted to do a post but I was bored - I wanted to do so many impossible things, limited art supply in the house, etc etc. And I can't make any food because there's ten chances to one I'll cough and sneeze in it and well, I don't feel like cooking. It'll be like a chore and the poor food wouldn't like that!

By the way I've changed my Blogger Profile, you can check it out here.

Eh, where was I? Um, yeah the posts. (So far about 20 grammar mistakes to my surprise).

I decided to share some of the competitions I have won - with poem writing!!

I know, poem writing might not be popular, but when I was smaller I was VERY good at it, but not to boast, I wonder if I could do the better now? Probably not. We'll see later inshaa Allaah.

When I was... errrr.... When I was 2013. No, I mean... eh, 5 years old. No? I don't know how I made the poem, but I did. This was the first entry that won.

In case you can't read it, here it is:

Dahl Al Hamam Park
A Feeling of Bliss,
Happiness in this,
Bending trees greet me,
Cats eating popcorns,
Looking cheekily at me.

Little spooky woods,
Mysterious cave,
Grass like waves,
A sandy playground,
All make me laugh.

I adore....
sledding down the hills,
Rolling over with pals,
Picnic with family,
Feeding chirping birds,
play with sand
And dawdle back home
Thanking my Lord!

I remember asking Ummi, 'how do I write this - walk back home'? She suggested a lot of words and I remember choosing 'dawdle'.

I haven't visited Dahl-Al-Hamaam park for such a long time! It's my favourite. What's your favourite?

Another time, same sponsor, I submitted ARTWORK as well as a poem.

It wasn't really pretty but it was nice enough at that time. I still have a whole collection of things that I wrote and drew!!

Here it is.

Amazing Seabed

What do I see,
Under the sea,

Awesome rainbow fish,
fearsome great white shark,

Enormous blue whales,
Notorious Manta rays,

Scanning hammerhead sharks,
Snouting seahorses,

Stinging jellyfish,
Hiding on the coral reef,

Five armed starfish,
Dive and calm dolphins,

Rumbling sea volcanoes,
pouring out sea lava,

Amazing seabed,
gift for eyes!

This was my challenge in December 2013.

This is one of my favourites!

The Sky Like a Canopy

I see..............
Clouds like woolly sheep,
to cuddle and keep.

Sun like the yellow bright ball,
to play and crawl.

Moon like a rocking cradle,
to nest and label.

Twinkling stars like sequins,
to sprinkle the penguins.

Far away planets like tracing dots,
to doodle on the pots.

Flashing lightening like zig-zag,
to stop all our chit-chat

Colourful rainbow peeks out like an arch,
to go under and march.

Glory be to My Lord,
and hoping for His reward.

And....

This was the last entry - March 2014.

Wild Animals of Qatar

Brown long sand snakes
moves through the sand dunes,
looking for its prey.

Fork Tongue Desert Monitor,
a metre long aggressive lizard,
ready to eat with a bite.

Ethiopian Hedgehog,
hiding in the rocks,
ready to fight a big snake.

Arabian Gazelle,
with a long pair of horns,
shows its thin frame.

A Kangaroo Cat,
comes out in the night,
to throw sand at the enemy.

Nocturnal Fox,
with bat like ears,
roaming the dunes in the dark.

Lonely Sand Cats,
living in the sand caves,
dig deep into the dunes for prey

One day I hope to see them all,
and praise the Lord of all.

And we were invited to the winning ceremony -

These were my prizes.

And here's the last best ever poem I wrote when I was 8 years old.

I have written a poem called 'Deep Blue', and Inshaa Allaah I will share it with you, I did this when I was just 5!

I am feeling a bit off now, so I think the post had better end now.

Assalaamu alaikum!

Maimoonah

P.S: which was your fav?

The Seven Sisters - At-Thuraya

بسم الله الرحمن الرحيم

 السلام عليكم

Before we get into this post fully, I wanted to say:

Jazzakallaah Kharyan for 5 followers and 124 unique visitors! And to you too, Ummi!!
Now let's start the post officially.

...................................................................

Have you ever heard of the word Thuraya? Probably. Have you ever known it's role... in the sky? Probably not. Now, take a look at the picture below.

Thuraya as it appears from mid-northern latitudes when setting.

I don't know if you recognize it, but here's some of it's history.
I also don't know if it has any kufr-related matters, but it's among some Greek constellations, and the Hands of Thuraya's stars have been taken to form the other constellations such as 'Cassiopeia'.

The Thuraya is known today as the constellation 'Pleiades', a Greek word, as I'm pretty sure you can guess. It literally (in the Arabic language) means Stars and the Planets. Well, that's the closest, but it also can mean Star. According to other sites, it means The Little Abundant One. One of the common meanings to 'Pleiades' is The Seven Sisters as the real Thuraya is a cluster of seven stars, thus naming them 'seven sisters'.

ثريا

And that is the Arabic word. While some people say it as 'thuu-raa-yaa', it can also be pronounced as 'thuu-rayy-aah'. See the difference?

The word dates a long way back, how long, apparently no one knows. ...821 C.E?
...I researched.

Thuraya can also be a girl's name.

So, the big question. Why am I so interested in At-Thuraya, the Pleiades? Well...
Yesterday we went to Katara (click the link for details). So brief account of Katara:
It looks like this, has pigeon towers, and bicycles and scooters can be ridden there.

It happened that there was a Planetarium opened at that time, so we went to see it. We also took some pictures, but that moment later.

It's name is The Thuraya Planetarium, and here is the link! Mashaa Allaah it was nicely designed. It was interesting to look at; especially the 'moon split'. They had a sculpture of the moon broken into half. Alhamdulillaah I got some clear pictures. And this is not edited.

It also had a 'your mass on planets' machine. You had to step on it and it would tell you your mass. On Jupiter mine was eighty something KG! I am VERY light. I stepped on a weight machine a few months ago and I was exactly 35 KG!!

I didn't take a picture though.

The next wonder was these planets hanging from the ceiling but I didn't get a clear picture at all. So I am not putting it here.

The next pretty picture is three little planets, I think planet's moons if you can understand what I am talking about.
It looks so unearthly (I don't mean creepy), which, of course it is, being quite far from our planet the Earth.
Look what's down below! It's an astronaut! Ramlah was THRILLED to see an astronaut right here. Do you think this is clear?

Those are the three pictures that were really clear alhamdulillaah. Click them to enlarge.

If you want to see them again without scrolling up....

That's it for today, inshaa allaah see you in the next post!

That's all from the Ramadhaan posts I can find. Inshaa Allaah more will be coming in Ramadhaan!

GIFT IDEAS FOR EID

 Cross Stitch

Image result for cross stitch

This might be hard but it is worth the effort. I want to finish my cross stitch pattern before Eid, frame it and send it to my grandmother, who will be so pleased inshaa Allaah. She has always wanted me (and Ummi) to take up sewing. Ummi hasn't been able to - her hands sweat a lot (so do mine but not so much). So I showed her so far what I made (1/3rd) and she was like, who's work is this?? Haha!
This is the cross stitch pattern I am doing.
Though it doesn't really look nice (dull colors), I am not using the same colors. My around-six-year-old embroidery floss are a lot - sent by a nice sister (I forgot where) - and it looks something like this! Watch the whole video for the cross stitch pattern.
And this was done about two weeks ago.

Beads

This is for toddlers! Little ones love sorting and talking (in Ramlah's case) about their beads. If you can trust your two (or three!) year old, you can give him/her a pouch full of beads. I got some many years ago and now handed them down to Ramlah!!

Giving some beads and observing a 2 year old is such an amazing experience . Alhamdulillaah. They come up with so many things to do with it. Ramlah is counting, feeling the texture, collecting some . trying to find same colors to match, she is sorting as per her rules and desires, giving some live commentary as to what she is doing with the beads. Using her imagination and coming up with her own games to play. I am only observing. Sitting next to her. She loves that I am watching her. And she is exploring. Learning does not have to be a curriculum but not knowing what you need to facilitate is what most sisters are struggling with. Actually curriculum packs are not for young children rather they are for mums and teachers. This is one reason that I am hoping to have the upcoming workshop for mums "what to teach children ages 2 to 5. Link in bio to register.

Though WARNING, a parent needs to be around when kids play with beads.

Help this Book by Maimoonah Thadhani

.......By me.

I think this would make a great gift for those who struggle with their creativity. Age group? Well, there is no age limit. I think 4+ would like it. But those who would really appreciate it might be the age group 9+.

How to bind the book. This is an example of how you need to fold the pages. Always, always make sure the book's spine consists of the thinner pages etc, the ends of each page. The ends of each page must be always two, and the reason why I DIDN'T make it like the real books is that when you're doing art and watercolor painting, the other side of the page might get soaked - one paper is not thick enough to stop that. That's why the pages need to be... yes! Doubled, that was the word I was looking for. Oh and, tip? I didn't have black ink so I did the cover in blue and white. Print cover separately on card stock (not too thick not too thin) and in black and white for a fully customizable cover.

Cushions
 Image result for crochet cushion
Cushions aren't hard to make but they do take a lot of your time. Why? Well, because.... we are using the CROCHET method.

Do a chain stitch, then any of the stitches, Tunisian stitch, single stitch, double stitch, or triple stitch. I usually do single stitch but I'm thinking of doing double or triple for my friend. Make sure to use baby-safe yarn if you are planning to give it to a baby. I learned yarn can be very expensive in Qatar. The local sewing store here is called Today's Fashion. And it's SO expensive! But I want to go to... maybe Rawnaq Textile Store. They might have yarn that is inexpensive.

Well that's it for this post: this took me an hour. How long does it take YOU??
